Choosing the Right Bike for You

The preferred mode of transport has taken an unlikely turn in recent years. Cars were the king of the road, however we can now see a growing trend in the popularity of cycling as a main method of transport. Perhaps the trend can be put down to 'green' thinking, or maybe just the prices of gas are starting to get to people. No matter what has caused it, the fact is there are now more cyclists on the road than in a long while. Perhaps you have been giving some thought to getting a bike yourself? Here are some hints to help you choose the cycling bicycle that is right for you.

One thing you can consider when choosing a bike is whether or not your feet can rest flat on the floor while you are sitting so you can stop yourself. Some experts, however, say that this is not a good idea. They say that it is better to give yourself a few inches between your feet and the ground to create a more comfortable cycling experience. If your feet are on the ground and your knees are bent when you about his sit on the seat of the bike, it generally means that the seat is sitting too low for you and too close to the crossbar. If this is happening, when you start to pedal the bike then your knees are going to come up too high.

Do you require more features on the new bike? If you will need to transport things with your bike, you’ll need a basket. Will a child ever be transported on your bike? Attaching a child seat is not possible for every bike, so choose wisely. How about towing something behind the bike? If so, you will need to find a bicycle that can support the weight of a small trailer or whatever else you will be towing behind you.

How many gears do you need? Choose according to how you’ll ride; mountainous areas require more gears than flat land areas do. A bike isn’t better just because it has more gears than another. You may never even get around to using all the available gears. Why spend extra money paying for something that you don’t need? If your bike is going to be the main means of travel for you, you absolutely must get the number of gears you need for the situations in which you’ll ride.

When looking for a bike your main goal is to find one that suits you physically. This is the most important thing to consider when looking into using a bike to get around. Safety is important when on a bike but do not overlook comfort, otherwise those long rides will soon grow tiresome.
